Code of Conduct & Professional Ethics

As a Professional Pet Dog Trainer (PPDT), Fear Free Certified Professional – Trainer (FFCP-T), Family Dog Mediator (FDM), and Certified Bite Prevention Educator, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.

My practice is rooted in force-free, positive reinforcement methods. I pledge to adhere to the following principles to promote the well-being of dogs and foster positive relationships between dogs and their owners.

Our Core Ethical Pledges
  • Promote Positive Reinforcement: I will use rewards-based training to encourage desired behaviors, refraining from aversive methods that cause fear, anxiety, or harm.

  • Prioritize Animal Welfare: I will provide for the physical, mental, and emotional needs of dogs, treating them with kindness, respect, and compassion at all times.

  • Maximize Animal Agency: I aim to maximize a dog’s ability to opt in or out of activities, prioritizing their autonomy and emotional comfort.

  • Honesty and Integrity: I will accurately represent my qualifications and experiences, maintaining transparency in all interactions.

  • Respect and Collaboration: I will work collaboratively with clients to develop customized plans that align with their goals, listening attentively to their concerns.

  • Confidentiality and Boundaries: I will respect the privacy of clients and maintain professional boundaries in all interactions.

  • Continued Education: I will stay informed about the latest developments in behavior science to enhance my skills.

Equipment and Methodology Standards
  • Comfort and Safety First: I recommend only equipment that allows for maximum comfort and does not harm the animal in body or mind.

  • Aversive-Free: I do not use or recommend equipment that elicits an alarm reaction or causes pain, discomfort, or fear. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Electronic/shock collars

    • Spray/citronella collars

    • Prong or choke collars

    • ‘Alpha rolls’ or physical intimidation

  • Cooperative Care: If necessary safety equipment (like a muzzle) is uncomfortable, I will utilize cooperative care protocols to acclimate the dog safely before use.

Professionalism and Community
  • Inclusivity: I treat all humans with respect, regardless of ethnicity, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, or gender.

  • Advocacy: I advocate for the humane treatment of all animals and speak out against practices that cause unnecessary suffering.

  • Professional Boundaries: I will behave with honesty and care, actively setting boundaries on unhealthy interpersonal behavior while practicing consent for intrusive interactions.
